Janet Sargisson was born in Montréal, Québec, Canada and has always called this vibrant city home. From a very early age, she has been passionate about painting, drawing and all forms of art. After a rewarding career as an English Language Arts teacher, Janet is now able to devote herself full time to her artistic practice.

Janet completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Concordia University (1991) and has studied at the former Saidye Bronfman Centre and the Visual Arts Centre with various esteemed artist-teachers: Guido Molinari, Lee Plotek, Joe DiLeo, Ian Shatilla, Renée Duval, Michael Merrill, Elizabeth Galante, Mary Hayes and Pat Walsh, to name a few. Janet has shown her work as a student at Concordia University, the Saidye Bronfman Centre, and the Visual Arts Centre, as well as participated twice in The Square Affair at the VAC.  She has exhibited at the Georges Vanier Cultural Centre (A L’Oeuvre group show– April 2016 and 2017), in a juried group show, Cadence, at the E.K. Volkland Gallery (June 2016) and in her own show "Recent Works" at Galerie Espace in October 2016.   One of her paintings was included in the Secret Atelier,  the VAC curated Fundraiser (2017) and she is showing six pieces at Magpie Pizzeria ( 1237 Amherst, Mtl.Qc H2L 3K9 (December 15 - February 28, 2018).  She is looking forward to having paintings in a group show in May 2018 at Galerie Erga, St. Laurent Blvd., Montreal.
